“Freedom is the open window through which pours the sunlight of the human spirit and human dignity.” - Herbert Hoover
After four months of traveling the state of Virginia, photographing, interviewing and documenting 50 Virginia Vietnam Veterans, we are happy to announce the Virginia War Memorial Vietnam Project is almost complete. All that is left to do is to assemble the exhibit.
This was the highlight of a challenging year for me. No matter how much the universe threw my way, listening to the stories and interacting with this group of 50 Virginia Vietnam Veterans, reminded me that when faced with adversity we all have deep inside us courage, perseverance and a spirit to survive even in unimaginable circumstances.
Their present day portraits and footage will be used to create a comprehensive experience for viewers of the exhibit and will be shared alongside candid photos of the Veterans during their time in Vietnam. The exhibit debuts in Richmond, VA on 27 January 2023 coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Peace Accords; it will be open to the public on 28 January for one year.
It was a pleasure and an honor to work with Executive Director of the War Memorial, Clay Mountcastle and his talented staff, and to collaborate again with my Sister Veteran and amazing videographer Pamela Hart Vines.
