“Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anybody expects of you. Never excuse yourself.” – Henry Ward Beecher
When I was in a military uniform, I would often help my peers or subordinates look their best.
Not in a mean or condescending way, but more like, let's look great together.
We all represented the uniform, so if one of us was having a 'bad hair day', I felt like to the public, the whole Naval service was having a 'bad hair day.' Especially my fellow women Sailors, it seemed like our standards had to exceed everyone else's to be accepted.
I've taken this approach into my small business.
“People mistake their limitations for high standards.” –Jean Toomer
I often get asked what is it that I do when I retouch images. The list is long and it's mostly things that only bother me - but once I show you, you can't unsee them. And don't worry it's all included in my service. I'm not going to nickel and dime you just because a blemish popped up the morning of your headshot session (because that's when they always arrive!)
But just know, as a pro photographer we do more than push a button and if you don't look good, then I don't look good.
Do you set high or impossible standards for yourself?
